Merson and Lawro have their say on Everton v Spurs

Mark Lawrenson and Paul Merson have had their say on their thoughts ahead of the Everton vs Tottenham match.

Although we actually don’t value the opinions of these two pundits, especially Merson – it’s always humorous to see how bitter he is about us.

Lawrenson told BBC Sport: “Everton will concede because they are not the best defensively. In fact their defence, with the likes of Seamus Coleman and Leighton Baines at full-back, might be better going forward than they are defending.

“Phil Jagielka – who has been out for a couple of months with a knee injury – might have to be pressed into service sooner rather than later.

“At the other end, it will be interesting to see Romelu Lukaku going up against fellow Belgians Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen in the Spurs defence.

“Everton have not won at home since beating Villa on 21 November. I think they are due one.”

Lawro’s prediction: 2-1

Merson told Sky Sports: “I haven’t been going against Tottenham recently, but I think Everton will come out on top in a high-scoring encounter.

“They’ve got to keep it a little bit tighter, but I see this being a thriller. Both teams only play one way really, and I think they both have firepower to hurt each other. I’ve watched Everton enough this season to know that if they click, they can go on a big run.”

Prediction: 3-2
