Photo of Alderweireld in a Man Utd kit sends fans on social media into overdrive

Rumours have been circulating after a photo was posted on social media apparently showing Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld and Chelsea’s Willian posing in Manchester United kits.

Both players have been linked with a move to Old Trafford all summer, with the photographs having sparked a storm on Twitter but it appears as if it’s nothing more than a sneaky Photoshop effort.

To the untrained eye, you can see why so many fans would have been caught out at first glance but they are definitely not genuine.

Willian’s photo is based on an original image of Paul Pogba, with the Brazilian player layered on top. The Alderweireld effort looks even more realistic as it also features his distinctive arm tattoo, but in fact the player it is based on is United defender Victor Lindelof.

Alderweired’s future at Tottenham continues to be cast into doubt with no progression on a new contract. His contract contains a one-year extension option, which is scheduled to activate in the summer of 2019 and would see him contracted until 2020. But it also features a £25m release clause. In the summer of 2019, the central defender would be permitted to leave if a rival club were to pay £25m and complete the transfer at least 14 days before the closure of the window.

He currently earns around £50,000-a-week at Spurs and is said to be holding out for around £150,000-a-week.
