Photo: Spurs boost as experienced player returns to training

Tottenham Hotspur have posted a photo of Jan Vertonghen in training outdoors earlier today as he steps up his recovery.

The Belgian central defender has been sidelined with a thigh injury since sustaining the problem during the 1-1 draw with Barcelona at the Nou Camp earlier this month in the Champions League.

He is not expected to return to action until the New Year.

It was the second injury that the 31-year-old had sustained this season after missing nearly two months with a hamstring injury which caused him to miss 10 matches.

He suffered the problem during the 2-0 Premier League win at Huddersfield Town on 29 September.

Vertonghen recently extended his contract at Spurs until 2020, his current deal was set to expire at the end of the season with Spurs exercising the option to extend it by a further year.

He has has made 264 appearances for the Club since joining from Ajax in 2012 and bad played under Andre Villas-Boas, Tim Sherwood and Mauricio Pochettino.
