Toby Alderweireld was once again in superb form after playing his part in an impressive defensive performance from Tottenham Hotspur to deny Borussia Dortmund.

The German side wasted no time in bringing wave after wave of attack during the first 45 minutes of the second leg but met a Spurs side who were defensively on top of their game.

Harry Kane’s 49th minute goal proved to be crucial when it meant that Dortmund would have to score five goals to cause a huge upset.

Spurs can now look forward to the draw for the quarter final of the Champions League in what looks to be a very open competition after Ajax shocked Real Madrid with a 4-1 win in Spain.

With Alderweireld’s contract situation still causing a concern to Spurs fans, surely it is time that Daniel Levy now decides to pay the star players what they deserve or risk dismantling a team who are on the verge of something special.
