Player confirms he won’t return to Spurs

Tottenham loanee Pau Lopez has confirmed that he will not be returning to the club this season.

The goalkeeper spent last season on loan at White Hart Lane but did not make a senior appearance for the club. Despite this, Lopez has expressed his gratitude to the players and staff of Tottenham for the experience.

As part of the loan agreement, Tottenham did have the option to buy the 22-year-old for £6.2million until the end of June but did not agree a deal in time.

In fairness, Lopez has a better chance of first-team football back in his homeland rather than trying to move ahead of Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm in the pecking order.

“I do not know where all this comes from, nobody has told me that [Espanyol] do not count on me and I will be here all season, no matter what,” Lopez told Diario AS.

“I am happy to be at home because Espanyol is my home and I am happy with my teammates. When you spend one year away you value even more when you return.

“[In London] you are out of the comfort zone and that makes you evolve on a personal level, you also know a new league and a new way of training.

“I was in a team with incredible players and a coach (Mauricio Pochettino) to whom I am thankful for the experience they gave me.”
