Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. I watched this game twice yesterday and IMO we threw away two points. I also think Pooch has to take some of the blame with his substitutions and his lineup. The first issue I have is Pooch starting Eriksen out wide with Ali in the middle. During January and February, Pooch was playing Eriksen in the middle and the Dane was statistically the best midfielder in the league during that time and we won six in a row. In the last two games, Pooch has started Eriksen out wide with either Ali or Mason in the middle and the results have been a lost and a tie. In the second half yesterday he moved Eriksen to the middle and we scored two goals and then he brings on Mason and moves Eriksen back to the outside and we struggle to finish off Arsenal. Despite being stuck to the outside, Eriksen still created five chances in the game (Ozil created zero yesterday).

The other issue with Ali in the middle is that his first touch lets him down too often when he is playing as a #10 which causes our attacks to break down and other teams to counter attack. Ali was disposed five times and had nine unstable touches in the game. He had a nice back heal for Harry's goals, but other then that what did he really do? Pooch is asking to much from Ali and is playing him out of his natural position of a deeper box to box midfielder where he can make late runs into the box.

This leads me to Pooch's insistence of playing Eric Dier every week. What does he bring to the team as a DM? His passing is poor and besides committing fouls he seems dead on his feet. Watch Ramsey's goal and you will see Dier jogging back after the turnover. He is a defensive midfielder and Ramsey was his man yet he was making almost no effort to help the two CB. Yesterday, Eric had less tackles and interceptions then every other midfielder on the pitch, yet Pooch takes Dembele off instead of Dier. Why Pooch didn't bring on Son, drop Ali next to Dembele, and pull Dier off is a mystery to me. Instead he took off Demebele who was brilliant ( seven tackles, two interceptions and a passing 97%) and kept Dier on (one tackle, one interception, and passing 80%).

The other big tack away for me was how poor Walker was. Walker gets into great positions time and time again, but if you cross the ball into the stands every time you have it at your feet what good are you? At least Trippier can cross a ball. Walker completed one cross and a passing of 59%. Which means that almost have the time, he gave the ball away when he passed it. Just terrible, but you gave him a seven?

I suggest people watch this game again without the Rose colored glasses and you will see what I'm talking about. Either that or just look at the stats.
