Hugo Lloris – 3
It was an unbelievably terrible return to the side for the Frenchman. You have to ask yourself “what on earth was he thinking?” when he came out of his goal for a Messi through ball which he had no chance of catching. Alba and Coutinho punished the mistake and Barcelona were up and running. He almost gave away another goal by playing into danger in the middle of Spurs half and he capped off his awful night by playing a ball into Sissoko who was under pressure which led to the final goal. Gazzaniga deserves another game in my opinion with Lloris and Vorm looking out of form.
Hugo Lloris’ nightmare mistake after less than two minutes gave Tottenham Hotspur an uphill task in their Champions League clash against Barcelona.
The keeper did not exactly cover himself in glory upon his return to the side, opting to come charging out of his goal even though Barcelona’s Alba was always favourite to get there first. Alba squared the ball to Coutinho who took one touch and slotted home from 20 yards.
A textbook volley by Rakitic made it two-nil going into the half time break, but Spurs did show an improvement in the second half.
Spurs pulled one back through Harry Kane, who dragged the ball back in the area before curling into the bottom corner. In typical style Lionel Messi hit back almost instantly.
Erik Lamela gave Spurs a lifeline with a deflected shot to make it 2-3, but it was Man of the Match Messi who had the final say by adding his second and Barcelona’s fourth on 89 minutes to condemn Tottenham to s second successive Champions League defeat.
