Vincent Janssen looks set to remain at Tottenham Hotspur until the summer after proposed moves away from the club failed to materialise.

Mauricio Pochettino has already made it clear that there is no route back into the first team at Spurs for the Dutchman, however, it now appears that Janssen will remain in North London.

The 24-year-old currently earns around £25,000-a-week (Standard) in what seems like a waste of around £500,000 to keep him kicking his heels at Hotspur Way until the summer rather than get him off the wage bill.

Janssen has 18 months to run on his existing contract and had been linked with a host of clubs in recent days including Cardiff City, Burnley, Schalke and Real Betis.

He joined Spurs for £17m from AZ Alkmaar in the summer 2016 but only managed to score  six goals in 39 appearances for the club.

Janssen had recently been appearing for Tottenham’s Under-23 side to build his match fitness ahead of the hope of a move away, but now it looks as if we’ll be turning out for the development side for a few more months.

  1. With a year left in the summer we will get a small fee like £5m and take a huge hit. It’s very poor by Levy and co not to sort a deal for him. We have had the whole window. At least in a loan he could have increased his poor value. Now he rots in U23 team and we will lose £10m+. No idea what we’re doing and why Dembele not replaced. Had we got a plan in place I’m sure we could have at least beaten Palace to stay in that cup. We’ve been so lucky to beat Fulham and Watford very unconvincingly. That run could end against Newcastle who’ve won when we’ve played them at home a few times in recent years.

  2. This is disgraceful treatment for a player whose only sin is to be not quite good enough for Tottenham. Aside from a waste of salary, the fact is, players want to play – and we are stopping him from doing that. A professional’s career is short enough as it is.

It seems like a double punishment. Can’t play-can’t leave. I hope Levy winces every time he has to pay Vincent’s wages.
