Player set to rot at Tottenham until the summer

Vincent Janssen looks set to remain at Tottenham Hotspur until the summer after proposed moves away from the club failed to materialise.

Mauricio Pochettino has already made it clear that there is no route back into the first team at Spurs for the Dutchman, however, it now appears that Janssen will remain in North London.

The 24-year-old currently earns around £25,000-a-week (Standard) in what seems like a waste of around £500,000 to keep him kicking his heels at Hotspur Way until the summer rather than get him off the wage bill.

Janssen has 18 months to run on his existing contract and had been linked with a host of clubs in recent days including Cardiff City, Burnley, Schalke and Real Betis.

He joined Spurs for £17m from AZ Alkmaar in the summer 2016 but only managed to score six goals in 39 appearances for the club.

Janssen had recently been appearing for Tottenham’s Under-23 side to build his match fitness ahead of the hope of a move away, but now it looks as if we’ll be turning out for the development side for a few more months.
