Poch provides fitness update on Vertonghen and Dier

Mauricio Pochettino has provided an update on the fitness of Eric Dier and Jan Vertonghen.

The pair missed Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League match against Burnley this afternoon.
Vertonghen played the full 90 minutes in Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw in Barcelona where Mauricio Pochettino’s side booked their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League.
Eric Dier was an unused substitute at the Nou Camp and has since been laid low by a virus, while Vertonghen was sidelined by a thigh problem.
Ben Davies started in place of Vertonghen in the heart of the Spurs defence alongside Toby Alderweireld, while Dier’s absence allowed 18-year-old Oliver Skipp to make his full Premier League debut against the Clarets.
A late Christian Eriksen goal saw Spurs take all three points against a Burnley side who set up to defend for the duration of the game.
It remains unknown if either Dier or Vertonghen will be available for Wednesday night’s trip to the Emirates when we Arsenal in the Carabao Cup.
A statement on the official Spurs website from Mauricio Pochettino read: “After the game against Barcelona Jan suffered a problem in his quad. We need to assess him in the next few days.

“Eric started suffering a little with a virus last night and it was impossible for him to be available.”
