Poch: A top four finish will be difficult

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino admitted a top-four place may now be beyond his side – they are seven points off fourth-placed Manchester City with a vastly inferior goal difference after Burnley dug in to earn a precious point in their relegation battle.

A drab draw would be a kind description of the game with some diabolical displays from the likes of Paulinho and Walker.

Pochettino said: “It is difficult but we have seven games, we will try. It is true that it is not easy. This game was a very tough game and we need to try to win the most points possible in the next seven games.

“The way Burnley play it is difficult, because always there is long balls into the box. They are a very aggressive team and run a lot. It is difficult to find space to play.

“We played better in the second half and we made some chances but it was not enough to score. Three weeks ago Manchester City lost here. It is not an excuse but it is a very, very difficult team.”

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. If we're honest, considering a string of last gasp undeserved 2-1 wins in the middle of the season, we're probably in a false position that flatters Poch's first season. We are a million miles away from the Top 5 clubs and next season could be a really car-crash mid table misery because there's no way we will strengthen more than all those around us, and for all the qualities some of our younger players have, they are not top quality. Mason, Bentaleb, Rose, Townsend, Dier, Walker, are all good young players but they wouldn't get anywhere near the starting teams of all the big clubs.
And I'm really not impressed with Eriksen the way the press are about him. He constantly gives the ball away, he has an awful pass completion rate for a No.10, and has less assists in the prem than Danny Rose! He can be pretty to watch and hits a good free-kick, but he really doesn't offer anything more in a long english season than someone like Lennon used to do – a few goals, a few assists, and about 20 games where he is absolutely invisible. Not good enough.

  2. A load of bullshit.

The game was tough, not because Burnley was aggressive. It is because we were not aggressive enough. Look at our line-up.

We don’t need to try making the most possible points in the remaining seven games since we hadn’t tried that today. It’s too late. The chances is too slim now.
