Mauricio Pochettino insists Tottenham have the squad to cope with the chase for both domestic and European glory.

Spurs are unbeaten in the Premier League since the opening day of the season and on Thursday night reached the knock-out stage of the Europa League.

Pochettino’s resources have been stretched by their European adventure, not least with an 11-hour, 5,000-mile round trip to Azerbaijan to beat Qarabag 1-0 and secure their place in the last 32.

But the White Hart Lane boss insists he is in no rush to dip into the transfer market when the window opens in January.

“I feel we have enough quality and a strong squad,” said Pochettino.

“I think the senior players and the young players that come through the academy can help us in the very busy period we have ahead. I am very confident we have a squad strong enough to compete in every competition.”

Tottenham lie fifth in the Premier League, just four points behind surprise leaders Leicester, ahead of Sunday’s visit of Chelsea but Pochettino is not getting carried away by their fine start to the season.

“It’s too early, but it’s true the feeling is very good from the beginning of the season. The way that we play, from last season, we have improved a lot. We are very happy with the way we are playing,” he said.

“For us it’s important to take it step by step. We are in a good position in the table but, like with last season, the most important thing is to finish higher.

“We need to keep calm and perform, as well as to have that strong mentality to compete in the Premier League or Europa League, and the FA Cup. It’s very important to be strong and to follow the same way we have gone from the beginning.”

A late Harry Kane header sank Group J minnows Qarabag and sealed Tottenham’s passage through with a game to spare.

Kane has now scored nine goals in his last six matches, and defender Jan Vertonghen said: “He’s doing very well.

“It’s not just scoring goals, he works very hard and is very important for the team, and I’m happy for him to get another goal.

“Qarabag are a good side so we had to stay patient. We knew chances would come, not so much in the first half but in the second we created a lot.

“It was a very difficult place to go and we showed great quality. For us to qualify, and win the group as well, is a great achievement.”
