Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that he will be taking his Tottenham Hotspur players for some warm weather training in Barcelona.

The Spurs players and backroom staff will jet off to Catalonia following Saturday’s Premier League clash against Southampton where they look to return to winning ways after only managing to pick up a single point from the last nine available.

With Crystal Palace having already ended Tottenham’s FA Cup hopes, along with an upcoming international break it means that following he visit to the south coast this weekend, Spurs are not back in action until they face Liverpool three weeks later.

Spurs have had to endure a hectic fixture schedule and Pochettino is keen for the players to have a well deserved break in a different environment,

It is the fourth successive year in which the squad has travelled to the city that manager Mauricio Pochettino and his coaching staff know so well from their time together at Espanyol.

He confirmed the news to Football.London when asked if they are off to Barcelona: “Yes. (Turns to press officer) I can confirm? (Press officer says ‘you’ve just done it’). Well it’s the last question so the question and my answer well (laughs)…Yes we are going to Barcelona after Saturday for a few days. I think we need a break all together. I hope good weather. We didn’t have the chance before.

“Many clubs can make two or three breaks like this and spend time together in different countries. Barcelona is one and a half hours away, we know it very well and we are going to be in a very nice place training in the Stadium Olympic Montjuic, it’s a beautiful place to work. Barcelona is a town that provides the best things, being all together, easy to manage and provide a very good place to work. I hope now the generality of Catalonia sends some presents because this publicity is amazing, for the tourism of Catalonia!”
