Pochettino makes reference to Tottenham exit

Mauricio Pochettino has admitted that whilst Tottenham Hotspur are building a good team, he believes that they need more time “with me or another” to get there.

Tottenham suffered yet another trophyless season, following the disappointing 2-1 FA Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester United at Wembley. The loss was Tottenham’s eighth successive exit from the competition at the semi-final stage.

Spurs have now not lifted any silverware since winning the League Cup in 2008, and are without FA Cup success since 1991. Fans are also concerned that this summer could see departures from the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Danny Rose and Mousa Dembele.

After finishing third and second respectively in the Premier League in the last couple of seasons, it’s been a case of ‘nearly’ for Spurs, but the trophy cabinet remains empty.

“We are building a very good team, about trying to create the winning mentality, but it is still at the moment not enough,” Pochettino told the post-match press conference.

“But I think Tottenham need to keep going in this direction. To create that winning mentality is not about a few years. Tottenham need more time, of course with me or another.

“It’s so important to keep going, focusing on working and developing that philosophy which is fantastic for the club.

“Of course, we are in a process to arrive to the semifinal and be competitive in the Champions League and competitive in the Premier League, fighting for the top four. I think it’s not enough because everyone feels that we are close, we are close, we are close. It’s nearly [close enough] to touch.”

“The most important thing now is to finish in the top four, play again in the Champions League for the club. We are building the new stadium. We played the whole season at Wembley which you know is very difficult to play.

“That is stress that is not only for the team, but for the fans. It was the most difficult when we started the season. But for me it is to keep going. I am disappointed, sometimes after the defeat when finished the game very frustrated but then [clicks fingers] quick I move on.

“Thinking about trying to finish the season in the best way, four games ahead and we need to be sure to play Champions League. Sure it will be a very successful season if we are able to keep our position in the table.”

  1. Pochettino is fartoo arrogant to be a Spurs manager. He never admits his mistakes when he gets things wrong. Plus, he he just never learns from them. His team selections have been poor he has no plan B or C. His substitutions are clueless he brings a player on far too late to make a game changer. Set Pieces, Corner kicks have shown no improvement over the past few year. Our conversion percentage is low considering the number we have. It makes you wonder if they practice them for there is little variation to surprise the opposition.
He tells us he has the final say on all transfers. Well, his record on this subject is very poor. Just look at these names. Sissoko, Llorente ,Janssen, two French winger who we can’t sell they are on loan.
All this money wasted and he won’t play Toby Alderweireld in the semi final against. Just remember the smallest player on the pitch head the first goal for Man Utd. So much for having a good defensive set up!
I would like to see Sean Dyche at Spurs. Just look at what he has done on a budget far less than all the rubbish Pochettino has bought. I rest my case.

  3. Our manager is not the problem ,our owner ENIC and Levy have no interest in football other than the money that can be created to finance a project which will make them a lot of money. If Poch goes so will half the team. Dyche ,like any other QUALITY manager will not go near THFC,as they know that Levy is a control freak that will line his own pockets but will not back the footballing side of the business. The signings alluded to by John were not signings by our manager.they were take it or leave it options offered by Levy

Pochs’ veiled threat that he may leave is possibly directed at the transfer policy and wage structure at THFC,let us see what happens this summer.

  4. Levy and Pochettino have done wonders at Spurs. Tottenham are one of the best run teams in the premiership, both on and off the field. Certainly it would be nice to win something, but count your blessings people.

    • Quite right bud.

To the other posters above you are living in a different world where Billionaires don’t buy other clubs in the premier and don’t spend money like water. We are very lucky to have the chairman that we have. He has taken our club from mid table nothingness to challenging. Im gutted about the weekend but we were there, we beat Real/Dort we should have beaten Juve. We have a world class stadium thats on it way to being finished and world class training facilities. We have challenged for the league twice in the last two years but hey your right fuck it all get rid of the people who have done a great job because the don’t have a money printing machine.

Our wage structure and transfer policy (don’t always get that right but which club dose) are part of the reason for the above.

      COYS
