Pochettino reveals striker snubbed Spurs

Mauricio Pochettino usually refuses to be drawn on transfer talk, but he did admit that he has had previous interest in Keita Balde.

The Tottenham boss tried to bring him to the club when the striker was at Lazio, but instead he ended up joining Monaco last year.
Pochettino has been monitoring the 23-year-old since his days at the Barcelona youth academy.
Balde, who is currently on a season-long loan at Inter Milan, who have an option to buy him next summer made a 72nd minute appearance in their 2-1 win against Spurs and provided the cross which led to Icardi’s equaliser.
Pochettino admitted that he remains a big admirer of the forward. Tottenham have struggled to bring in attacking players to help Harry Kane with the goal scoring burden, most recently Vincent Janssen and Fernando Llorente.

“Yes it is true. I have been following him since he was growing up at Barcelona while I was at Espanyol,” Pochettino was quoted as saying by Calciomercato.

“He has always been a player of interest for us, but then he chose Monaco. He remains an excellent attacker.”
