Pochettino’s blunt reply when asked about midfielder’s injury

Mauricio Pochettino gave somewhat of a mysterious answer when he was asked about the fitness of Erik Lamela.

The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has not played since the 6-2 thrashing of Everton just before Christmas. He was named on the bench for the Boxing Day win against Bournemouth but missed Saturday’s defeat to Wolves despite not being mentioned in Tottenham’s official team news update.

Lamela has not been named in six of Tottenham’s twenty Premier League match day squad’s this season with niggling injuries including a thigh problem.

When fit, he has shown arguably his best form in a Spurs shirt during the current season having scored four goals in eleven league appearances.

In November, he was recalled to the Argentina squad for the first time in two years. He missed most of last season and the World Cup in Russia, where Argentina were knocked out by France in the last 16, with a hip injury.

Pochettino was blunt when asked about the fitness of Erik Lamela following the Wolves defeat, he told Football.London: “I don’t know, I cannot confirm.”
