Premier League striker is quizzed on Spurs transfer speculation

Newcastle United striker Ayoze Perez has been asked by the Spanish press about his future at St James’ Park and speculation linking him away from the club.

His current contract with the Magpies runs until the summer of 2021 and was quizzed by Spanish newspaper Marca about rumoured interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Everton.

The 25-year-old certainly did not distance himself away from the speculation by instead claiming that he hopes that his efforts on Tyneside have put him in good stead for a step up in his footballing career.

Perez has scored seven times in the top flight this season, averaging a goal every 336 minutes played.

How Perez’s Premier League scoring form compares to some of the Tottenham players

Harry Kane – 24 goals – 126 minutes per goal

Heung-min Son – 16 goals – 157 minutes per goal

Lucas Moura – 8 goals – 242 minutes per goal

Dele Alli – 7 goals – 231 minutes per goal

Perez was asked by Marca: ‘There have been plenty of admirers: Everton, Tottenham… What does the future hold?’

He replied: To this day, I do not know. I hope [there is] something very good. I believe that I have gained merit in the last five years so that a good opportunity presents itself.

“I am very grateful to Newcastle, but it is obvious that someday I would like to come back and play in La Liga,” Perez added.
