Premier League strugglers target Spurs winger

Newcastle United are being linked with a move for Tottenham winger Andros Townsend.

The England international has fallen way down Mauricio Pochettino’s pecking order. Townsend was involved in a heated exchange with fitness coach Nathan Gardiner during a post-match warm-down after the 3-1 win against Villa, shoving the coach in the chest. Townsend had been an unused substitute and was being urged to work harder by Gardiner.

Mauricio Pochettino fined the player who recently turned out for our Under-21’s in an away match at Middlesbrough.

According to The Sun, Townsend is desperate to move to try and salvage any chance he has in being recalled to the England squad for next summer’s Euro 2016 tournament in France and will cost Newcastle in the region of £10million.

A Toon source told SunSport: “Manager Steve McClaren wants to sign English players to give his team more passion.

“Andros has impressed whenever he has been on England duty and did well at QPR on loan because Harry Redknapp put trust in him.”
