Real Betis manager makes big admission about Giovani Lo Celso’s future

Giovani Lo Celso has been linked with a possible move to Tottenham Hotspur since before we even took to the field in the Champions League final on June 1st in Madrid (BBC).

The midfielder scored 16 goals and provided six assists in 45 games for Real Betis last season which saw him rewarded with a place in Argentina’s Copa America squad.

Lo Celso completed a permanent move to the La Liga side in April after spending the season on loan from PSG with Betis triggering a €22 million agreement (BBC).

Betis manager Rubi has now revealed that they may sell Lo Celso this summer in order to use the money received to strengthen other areas of his side.

Rubi told El Desmarque: “We all want new faces soon but in the end we also look for the economic benefit and it is not easy.”

When asked about potential departures from his side, he added: “I know who does or does not have that intention. We are talking about a case in which the idea is very clear to leave. The rest is staying”

Rubi was probed further about whether Lo Celso could leave and added: “It could be, as a coach, I am delighted that he can join and help him do what he did last year and enjoy football.”

Lo Celso’s contract contains an £88 million release clause with Sky Sports claiming that they are likely to accept a bid in the region of £70 million which would provide substantial funds for re-investment.
