Report: Arsenal ‘confident’ of signing target ahead of Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur have already witnessed incomings and outgoings during the current transfer window.

Yesterday saw the departure of right-back Kieran Trippier to Atletico Madrid and there will be potentially more activity before the end of the transfer window with Vincent Janssen, Georges-Kevin Nkoudou and Danny Rose all likely to head out of the North London exit (Spurs official).

However it looks as if Tottenham could be set to miss out on one of their transfer targets to North London rivals Arsenal.

The Mirror are reporting that Arsenal remain confident that they will be sign Saint-Etienne central defender William Saliba ahead of Spurs.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side had potentially looked to steal a march on Arsenal whilst they were travelling to the USA for their pre-season tour with their approach for the 18-year-old, however the Gunners have since restructured their £27million offer.

As part of the agreement, Saliba is expected to be loaned back to the Ligue 1 side for the duration of the 2019/20 campaign.

Opinion

It’s always disappointing to lose out on a transfer target, especially to Arsenal. However, Saliba is likely to break into the Arsenal first team quicker than what he would at Spurs considering the lack of quality they possess at the heart of their defence – especially with their captain refusing to go on their pre-season tour.
