Report: Arsenal keen to beat Tottenham to rumoured transfer target

Tottenham Hotspur look set to face stiff competition from North London rivals Arsenal in the January transfer window.

Football Insider claim that Arsenal have identified Norwich City central defender Ben Godfrey as a player to help solve their defensive problems.

Godfrey has made 15 appearances for the Canaries in the Premier League this season and has also been involved with the England Under-21 set up (transfermarkt).

The Gunners were said to have been impressed with the performance of the 21-year-old during the match between the two sides at Carrow Road which took place on Sunday.

Norwich are said value Godfrey at £20-£25million and is also attracting interest from Borussia Dortmund and Lyon.

Tottenham face uncertainties over their two of their central defenders with both Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen both out of contract at the end of the current campaign.

The Belgian duo are able to open discussions with any interested parties on the continent from next month over a possible pre-contract agreement before walking away as free agents in the summer.
