Report: Brazilian is not on Tottenham’s January shopping list

Tottenham Hotspur are unlikely to make a January approach to sign Brazilian international Gerson.

Sky Sports (Transfer Centre: 13:00 – 8/1/20) report that they have been told that the Flamengo midfielder will not be heading to North London.

The midfielder has previous experience of playing in Europe having spent three seasons at Italian side Roma which included a season loan spell at Fiorentina in 2018/19.

Gerson left Italy to return to Brazil in the summer when he moved for a fee of €11.8 million which included a 10% sell-on fee for Roma from a future deal.

Tottenham’s midfield options have taken a blow with the news that Moussa Sissoko will be out until April while club record signing Tanguy Ndombele has had his fair share of injury issues this season.

90min previously reported that claim that talks between Spurs and the South American side have already commenced and were prepared to loan Gerson back to the Brazilian top-flight club for the remainder of the season.

Spurs chief scout Steve Hitchen travelled to South America at the back end of last year to cast his eye over some talent on the continent including Gremio forward Everton Soares (Sky Sports).
