Report: Club may be forced to sell rumoured Spurs target in January

Tottenham Hotspur could be set to receive a boost in their reported pursuit of Nathan Ferguson.

The Birmingham Mail claim that the West Bromwich Albion right-back, who is out of contract at the end of the season has yet to commit his long-term future to the club.

The 18-year-old has already been scouted by the Champions League finalists and the Baggies may be forced to sell him in January or risk losing him for free.

The report suggests that the Championship side have already tabled a significant contract offer to the defender yet talks between the club and his representatives have stalled.

Ferguson is able to discuss a pre-contract agreement with European clubs when the transfer window opens next month before walking away as a free agent next summer.

Spurs had experienced problems at right-back at the start of the campaign following the departure of Kieran Trippier during the summer with Mauricio Pochettino having utilised Kyle Walker-Peters, Serge Aurier, Davinson Sanchez and Moussa Sissoko on the right side of his defence.

Opinion

The arrival of Jose Mourinho has seen Aurier feature regularly at right-back, yet Spurs have a track record of trying to recruit bright young talent following the previous arrivals of Danny Rose, Dele Alli, Gareth Bale and Jack Clarke.
