Report: Club take a step back in pursuit of Tottenham player

Christian Eriksen’s hopes of joining Real Madrid may have been dashed.

Daily Telegraphclaim that the Spanish giants have decided not to prioritise a deal for the 27-year-old who is out of contract at Tottenham Hotspur at the end of the current season.

Eriksen wasted no time in telling the Danish media just days after Tottenham’s Champions League final defeat to Liverpool that he wanted to seek a new challenge away from North London whilst inviting contact from Madrid.

A move to the Bernabeu failed to materialise during the summer transfer window and he will be able to open discussions with clubs on the continent next month over a pre contract agreement.

Eriksen would be able to command a lucrative signing on fee if he departs Spurs as a free agent at the end of the current campaign and would see the Champions League finalists miss out on millions of pounds.

The report claims that Madrid’s backwards step represents a boost to Manchester United who are keen to sign the playmaker.
