Report: Door closes on Spurs and Arsenal for defender

Tottenham Hotspur were recently linked with a move for Juventus defender Merih Demiral.

Turkish Football reported that Spurs along with Premier League rivals Arsenal and Manchester United were keen on signing the 21-year-old, who was open to leaving the Serie A side after finding first team opportunites hard to come by under manager Maurizzio Sarri.

La Gazzetta Dello Sport, claim that the Italian giants have ruled out the possibility of the Turkish international leaving the club.

Demiral has now started two consecutive matches for the Old Lady with the report claiming that Sarri is planning to forge a central defensive partnership of Sarri and Matthijs de Ligt.

Opinion

Tottenham still have uncertainty surrounding two of their most experienced defenders in Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.

The Belgian pair are both out of contract in North London at the end of the current season and can open talks with any interested parties on the continent from next month over a pre-contract agreement.
