Tottenham Hotspur look set to bolster their squad this summer in the transfer market, especially following Christian Eriksen’s revelation that he wishes to leave the club to seek a new challenge (Ekstra Bladet).

One player who has been linked with potentially filling the void left if the Dane departs North London ahead of the new season is Ajax’s Donny Van de Beek.

The Mail have previously reported that Mauricio Pocehttino’s side are in the hunt for Van de Beek’s signature, with the midfielder valued at around £45 million.

The 22-year-old has been one of Ajax’s most impressive players this season caught the eye against Tottenham in the Champions League semi-finals, when he scored the winner in the first leg in North London.

Dutch football expert Marcel van der Kraan has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT this morning that Van de Beek wants to move to the Premier League and is keen to join either Tottenham Hotspur or Manchester United.

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. Professional football is jam packed with so called football experts. The trouble is that none of them have a fucking clue and make up bullshit on the hoof on a daily basis. Only last week the same player reportedly said that at this moment in time, he doesn’t see his future away from Ajax. Laughable that these so called experts actually get paid for the tripe they come up with, in the same way football journalist for the arse end rags do.

  2. Its Hakim Ziyech that we really need if Eriksen is going. He was not only Ajax player of the season but was behind everything good Ajax did against us, with a wonder goal, a wonder assist (for Van Der Beeks goal), and think he supplied the cross for De Ligts goal. Ziyech was an absolute force this season. With talk of him leaving (Ajax president confirmed that Ziyech was promised last year he could leave this summer) for 25m euros, we surely have to be in the reckoning to sign him. Can play anywhere across the attacking midfield 3 aswell in a midfield role as he did at times against us.

I suspect the way this season ended that moura will play a lot more next season, but his 16 goals and 0 assists paints its own picture and I suspect we will have to maybe slot creativity in behind the front 4 sometimes next season, aswell as being able to drop a direct player to fit a creative player into the Eriksen role. Rodrigo De Paul would also be the right sort and we could hopefully sign both him and Ziyech and have some change left from the Eriksen sale. Also Juan Mata I still believe has more to give and should shine under Poch (that and in 50 goals season he had at Chelsea was no fluke), I think on a free he is going to probably be the bargain buy of next season under a good coach. Even just to boost our squad he has to be considered.

    • Good shout Bulwark – so long as his salary expectations are commensurate with that role. Trouble is Man U and the Russian money laundering club pay silly money. May have warped his sense of his own value.
