Jan Vertonghen could be set to become the latest player to sign a new contract at Tottenham Hotspur.
The Athletic report that the Belgian defender is close to committing his future to the Champions League finalists.
Vertonghen is out of contract at the end of the season and can begin negotiations with clubs on the continent when the transfer window opens next month over a pre contract agreement which would see him walk away in the summer for free.
The report claims that Vertonghen is close to putting pen to paper, with the current hold up being whether he is offered a one or two year contract extension.
Fellow defender and compatriot Toby Alderweireld yesterday signed a new contract which will keep him in North London until 2023.
