Report: Jose Mourinho only wants to keep one of his defenders in revamp

Jose Mourinho is said to want to make wholesale changes to his Tottenham Hotspur defence.

The Portuguese who took over the managerial responsibility for the North London club following the departure of Mauricio Pochettino last month has witnessed his side having a number of defensive issues.

Spurs have conceded two goals in each of Mourinho’s first four matches in charge, including going two goals down to Olympiacos within them opening twenty minutes of a recent Champions League match.

The Independent claim that Mourinho wants to revamp his defensive options with Toby Alderweireld the only player that he wishes to retain in his preferred back line.

It is suggested that the 56-year-old will review his options in the transfer market for a new goalkeeper, right-back, left-back and central defender.

Whilst Alderweireld may be Mourinho’s player of choice, the Belgian is currently set to become a free agent at the end of the current campaign when his contract expires with fellow central defender Jan Vertonghen and midfielder Christian Eriksen in a similar position.
