Report: Mourinho set to make first signing as Spurs boss; player due for medical at Hotspur Way

Tottenham Hotspur are set to tie up a deal to sign Benfica midfielder Gedson Fernandes.

Sky Sports (10:12 – 13/12/20) are reporting that the 21-year-old is currently on his way to Lodnon and is expected to arrive at the Hotspur Way training ground this morning.

The arrangement is said to be based on an 18 month loan with the option to make the deal permanent for €65million.

Benfica were also said to have an agreed a deal with West Ham United, only for the player to decide that he would prefer to link up with the Champions League finalists who are managed by his compatriot Jose Mourinho (Sky Sports).

Tottenham have been left short of midfield options following Moussa Sissoko’s knee injury which will keep him out of action until at least April along with Tanguy Ndombele’s stop-start season due to injury.

Fernandes has Champions League experience and last season played 46 times, scoring three goals and providing six assists in all competitions (transfermarkt).
