Report reveals the reason why Chelsea player snubbed Spurs after Mourinho talks

Antonio Rudiger is said to have turned down the opportunity to join Tottenham Hotspur after becoming wary of the potential fallout from Chelsea supporters, according to The Athletic.

The German international has not made a single appearance for Frank Lampard’s side this season and has failed to make the match day squad for seven of the eight fixtures to date (transfermarkt).

Rudiger is reported to have discussed the prospect of joining the North Londoners and held productive talks with Jose Mourinho.

After becoming concerned about how Chelsea supporters would react to him joining their most fierce rivals, he decided to remain at Stamford Bridge and fight for his place until at least the winter transfer window.

AC Milan, Roma and Barcelona were also keen on landing the 27-year-old but were unable to secure a deal.

Spurs have instead been linked with a move for Swansea City centre half Joe Rodon, with a deal still a possibility until the EFL window closes on October 16th (BBC).
