Report: Source claims Spurs have set new stadium opening date

Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to open their new stadium in the middle of March.

According to a report in The Sun, the stadium is set to open for the visit of Crystal Palace in the Premier League on March 16th.

Tottenham are set to receive a status report from our contractors, Mace this week where they, in turn, hope to be able to start planning the two test events which are required to be held before the stadium can be granted a safety certificate.

The report from The Sun contradicts itself by claiming that a well-placed source says the target is to stage the first game at the 62,062 seater stadium next month and there have already been fans using paddy Power promo codes for new customers to wage a bet on when the stadium will finally open its doors.

Spurs have Premier League home fixtures against Newcastle United and Leicester City in February, with both having been selected for live television coverage by Sky Sports.

A source told The Sun: “Inside much of it is ready and what isn’t can be completed between games.

“The aim, as I understand it, is either Newcastle or Leicester at home in February.”

The stadium was originally scheduled to open on September 15th for the visit of Liverpool, only for issues with critical safety systems at the new ground to see the game moved to Wembley.
