Report: Spurs add defender who could move for reduced fee to transfer shortlist

Tottenham Hotspur are reported to have added Monaco’s Benoit Badiashile to their summer transfer shortlist, according to Football Insider.

The 19-year-old has impressed in the heart of the defence for the side who were tenth in Ligue 1 before the season was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Champions League finalists are said to be just one of a number of clubs who are keeping tabs on the central defender.

As things currently stand, Tottenham are set to lose one of their most experienced players this summer when Jan Vertonghen’s contract expires after failing to agree to terms over a new deal (Football Insider).

The report claims that Monaco could be forced to sell members of their squad this summer after failing to qualify for European competition for the second successive season along with the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

As a result, Badiashile could be available for a significantly lower fee.

Opinion

Jose Mourinho needs stability and experience to his back line if the season is to resume, we have been defensively frail and while Badiashile is a talent, he is not the answer to our issues at the moment,

Spurs would be better served looking to bring in the likes of Nathan Ake who is tried and tested in the Premier League.
