Report: Spurs and Man City monitoring £20m-rated defender

Tottenham Hotspur are reported to be closely monitoring the progress of Middlesbrough central defender Dael Fry.

TEAMtalk report that Spurs are just one of a number of clubs who are keen on the 22-year-old along with Manchester City, Wolves and Everton.

The Championship side are said to be fearful of losing the academy product in the upcoming January transfer window.

Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld are both out of contract in North London at the end of the current season which would leave just Davinson Sanchez as the only senior central defender, considering that Juan Foyth’s future now appears to be as a right-back.

The report suggests that a bid in excess of £20million would be enough to persuade Boro to part company with the England Under-21 international.

Eric Dier is also capable of playing in the heart of the Spurs defence, but is yet to make an appearance so far this season.

In recent years, Tottenham have enjoyed success in signing players from lower down in the English pyramid with Danny Rose, Dele Alli and Gareth Bale all having made the most of their switch to N17.
