Tottenham Hotspur are attempting to secure a deal to bring Benfica forward Carlos Vinicius to North London.
Football.London journalist Alasdair Gold claimed on Twitter that the 25-year-old is Jose Mourinho’s top striking target.
The report suggests that Spurs are attempting to secure an initial loan move with an option to make the deal permanent for £36.3million.
Gold claims that Spurs were keen to tie up a deal for Vinicius earlier in the window only for the Portuguese giants to price him out of a move but after their failure to secure Champions League football, it has played in Tottenham’s favour.
Vinicius enjoyed a prolific campaign in front of goal last season having netted on 24 occasions in 47 appearances across all competitions (transfermarkt).
Benfica signed the 25-year-old for just £15m last summer and inserted a £91m release clause in his contract and are said to want around £46million to allow him to leave (TVI24).
Spurs initially wanted to sign the player earlier in the window but the price was too high. The Portuguese side's exit from the Champions League has helped matters slightly. You can also loan more than one player from a non-PL club so it does not affect the Gedson loan.
