Report: Spurs could be set to face competition from Barcelona for forward

Tottenham Hotspur chief scout Steve Hitchen was reported to have made a recent trip to South America to cast his eye over some potential new recruits (Sky Sports).

Hitchen was said to be in attendance during the Copa Libertadores semi-final first-leg to watch Gremio forward Everton Soares in action against Flamengo.

The 23-year-old provided an assist in the 1-1 draw and also impressed for Brazil during the Copa America tournament in the summer where he finished as the joint-top scorer, despite starting the competition on the bench (The Sun).

Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo claim that it wasn’t just Spurs who had scouts in attendance during the match against Flamengo, with Barcelona also having representatives at the stadium to cast their eye over the forward.

Tottenham have been left short on attacking cover for Harry Kane with both Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen having departed North London over the course of the summer.

Soares has previously been linked with a move to Arsenal and his wife even posted video clips of him learning English earlier this year (The Sun).
