Report: Spurs could be set to steal transfer target from under Arsenal’s nose

Tottenham Hotspur fans always enjoy getting one over Arsenal, no matter how or what it may be.

Reports in the French media claim that Spurs have made a late approach for Saint-Etienne’s William Saliba and have held discussions with his representatives (L’Equipe).

The report suggests that Arsenal have already agreed on personal terms with the 18-year-old central defender and just need to agree to a fee with the Ligue 1 side.

He has apparently already agreed verbally to move to the Emirates but is also now open to a move to Spurs following their contact.

Saint-Etienne are said to want a transfer fee of around £21million for the 18-year-old who is regarded as one of the brightest defensive talents in French football after having made 19 first team appearances last season.

Spurs already have a host of central defensive talent in Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld, Juan Foyth and Davinson Sanchez while Eric Dier is also able to drop back from midfield and slot in the heart of the defence.

Whether any potential deal would see Saliba head back to Saint-Etienne on loan remains to be seen.
