Report: Spurs hold an interest in 25-goal forward

Brentford boss Thomas Frank has remained tight lipped on the future of his players following their failure to secure promotion to the Premier League.

The Bees came up short in the Championship playoff final against fellow Londoners Fulham with prolific forward Ollie Watkins said to be attracting interest from Premier League clubs.

Tottenham Hotspur are said to be ready to make a late approach for the 24-year-old with Aston Villa also interested, The Sun journalist Alan Nixon has claimed that a bidding war between both clubs could ensue.

Watkins netted an impressive 25 goals in 46 Championship appearances last season while also chipping in with three assists (transfermarkt).

After already recruiting Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Joe Hart and Matt Doherty, Spurs are said to be prioritising a striker who can provide competition and cover for Harry Kane (Football.London).

He told Sky Sports: “I always speak about the players I have in house or when the deals are done or not done. At this moment in time, they’re Brentford players. The fans will be informed when they find out if they’re staying or going.”

SpursWeb Opinion

Watkins offers some versatility in the final third of the pitch but is not a traditional target man who can help us to play more of a direct style when we are behind in a match.

We need a forward in the style of Llorente who can hold up the ball and the likes of Moura can play in behind.
