Report: Spurs hold talks with club for Brazilian midfielder

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on signing Flamengo midfielder Gerson.

90min claim that talks between the Champions League finalists and the South American side have already commenced.

The report suggests that Tottenham are prepared to make a concrete offer for the 22-year-old when the transfer window opens next month and are prepared to loan him back to the Brazilian top-flight club for the remainder of the season.

Gerson was named in Flamengo’s starting line up for their extra time defeat to Liverpool in yesterday’s FIFA Club World Cup final in Qatar and played 102 minutes of the match before being replaced.

The midfielder has previous experience of playing in Europe having spent three seasons at Italian side Roma which included a season loan spell at Fiorentina in 2018/19.

Gerson left Italy to return to Brazil in the summer when he moved for a fee of €11.8 million which included a 10% sell-on fee for Roma from a future deal.

Opinion

Tottenham have plenty of options in the middle of midfield in Harry Winks, Tanguy Ndombele, Moussa Sissoko, Eric Dier, Victor Wanyama and Oliver Skipp.
