Report: Spurs hold talks with German international’s father; stealing a march on Liverpool

Tottenham Hotspur are likely to be active in this summer’s transfer window after failing to bring in any new signings for well over a year.

According to German publication SportBild, Spurs have held talks with Germany international Julian Brandt’s father.

The 23-year-old has also been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp having a long-standing interest in the Bayer Leverkusen winger.

Spurs are said to have moved ahead of Liverpool in the race to land the player, however there has also been dialogue between Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid with Brandt’s father.

Brandt has two years left to run on his contract at the Bundesliga club who could seal Champions League qualification this weekend, but has a clause in his deal which can see him depart for just £21million.

Historically, Brandt has operated out wide but this season has shown that he can also play as a central midfielder. His flexibility will certainly be something which Mauricio Pochettino will find appealing given his tendency to ask his players to operate in multiple roles.
