Report: Spurs in battle with Man City and Man Utd for powerful midfielder

Tottenham Hotspur are trailing Manchester City in the race to sign Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele ahead of a possible transfer this summer.

The Express report that Pep Guardiola’s side are leading the likes of Tottenham, Manchester United and Juventus who have all been closely monitoring the 22-year-old who has made many of Europe’s top clubs sit up and take notice.

Ndombele would be considered as a long term replacement for Mousa Dembele who left North London in January to move to the Chinese Super League.

It is not just Spurs who have the French international in mind as a successor, City see Ndombele as the heir to Fernandinho who has proven to be a vital part of the Premier League champion’s midfield.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has previously hinted that he’s powerless if an offer from a top European club comes in.

“Financially, we have the best results in France”, he told Le Progres in Novembeer as quoted by the Manchester Evening News.

“That guarantees certain things, but it does not guarantee that we will be able to keep Ndombele, Aouar and other players.”

In 2015/16 he was playing in France’s fifth tier with Amiens reserve team. The following season he helped Amiens earn promotion into Ligue 1, then he moved to Lyon on an initial loan move at the start of the 2017/18 season before making the switch permanent for £8 million and is now valued in the region of £50million.
