Report: Spurs line up £40million replacement for Toby Alderweireld

Tottenham Hotspur are reported to be weighing up making an offer to Bournemouth for central defender Nathan Ake.

The Sun claim that Spurs are ready to part with £40million to bring the Dutch international to North London as a replacement for Toby Alderweireld, who just has twelve months to run on his existing contract.

When Spurs took up the year’s option, it also activated a £25m release clause which runs from the start of the current transfer window which allows any club to open negotiations for a bargain price (The Sun).

Alderweireld has yet to agree a new contract at Tottenham and is tipped by many to depart the club before the start of the season with Manchester United said to be keen on the Belgian (The Sun).

Ake has been impressive at the heart of the Cherries defence this season which saw him score an injury time winner against Mauricio Pochettino’s side in the Premier League match on the south coast early last month.

Opinion

It beggars belief why Tottenham do not move heaven and earth to try and get Toby Alderweireld to commit to a new deal at the club when you consider that they would have to spent around £40million alone on a transfer fee for a replacement.
