Report: Spurs look set to miss out on £70million winger

Tottenham Hotspur could be set to miss out on another rumoured transfer target after it was reported that Nicolas Pepe is ready to reject a move to the Premier League in order to join Bayern Munich (The Sun).

The report claims that Liverpool and Manchester United were interested in signing the Lille winger, who has been on Tottenham’s radar for a number of months (Times) when he was valued at around £27million.

His stock has risen considerably in recent months with The Sun claiming that the German giants are ready to pay £70million to bring him to the Bundesliga.

Pepe has had an impressive season which saw Lille finish second in Ligue 1 and book their place in next season’s Champions League.

Spurs are certainly crying out for some talent out wide who can actually deliver some end product in the final third. Erik Lamela has failed miserably to try and impact matches yet still offers little apart from a few fancy flicks and the almost mandatory yellow card.

Opinion

While Spurs will have some money to spend this season, it seems highly unlikely that they will be able to recruit a handful of players of the standard of Giovani Lo Celso, Julian Draxler, Bruno Fernandes, Tanguy Ndombele, Ryan Sessegnon and the list keeps on going.
