Report: Spurs make move for Ajax star

Tottenham Hotspur are reported to have made an approach to sign Ajax’s Donny van der Beek.

Dutch news outlet De Telegraaf described the move by the North London club as somewhat futile with the midfielder said to be keen on a move to Real Madrid.

The report claims that Madrid are prepared to part with £46million to land the Dutch international in the summer.

Van der Beek was linked with a move to Tottenham during the summer along with Premier League rivals Manchester United, but a transfer failed to materialise (talkSPORT).

The 22-year-old played a pivotal role in Ajax’s journey to the semi-final of the Champions League before suffering a last-gasp elimination at the hands of Tottenham which included him scoring in the first leg in North London.

Spurs are potentially on the look out for a new playmaker with Christian Eriksen out of contract at the club during the summer.

Eriksen has previously revealed that he wanted to seek a new challenge away from Spurs whilst also inviting interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid (Ekstra Bladet).
