Report: Spurs midfielder has tested positive for COVID-19

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tanguy Ndombele has reportedly tested positive for COVID-19.

The 23-year-old will not be included in the French national squad for their upcoming Nations League fixtures against Sweden and Croatia as a result of the infection according to French news outlet L’Equipe.

After arriving as the club’s record signing last summer, Ndombele scored on his Premier League debut against Aston Villa but struggled for match fitness early on.

His fitness issues continued until November when Mauricio Pochettino was dismissed from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but he also failed to find favour under new manager Jose Mourinho.

The Portuguese questioned the efforts of the former Lyon player after withdrawing him at half time during the 1-1 draw at Burnley in March (BBC).

He becomes the first Spurs player to have been publically named as having picked up COVID-19.

Tottenham begin their new Premier League season on September 12th with the visit of Everton with Ndombele now sidelined for this weekend’s friendlies against Reading and Birmingham City.
