Report: Spurs miss out on £9million midfielder to Manchester United

Tottenham Hotspur have a track record of signing young talent having previously recruited the likes of Gareth Bale, Danny Rose, Nabil Bentaleb, Dele Alli and Jack Clarke.

Mauricio Pochettino also landed 17-year-old Kion Etete from Notts County earlier this summer with the striker linking up as part of the club’s academy in a £200,000 deal (Nottingham Post).

The Press Associaton via the Leicester Mercury are reporting that Tottenham Hotspur missed out on the £9million signature of Monaco’s Hannibal Mejbri, who instead made the switch to Premier League rivals Manchester United.

The French Under-16 international visited United’s Carrington training complex last week with his agent before putting pen to paper on the deal (Manchester Evening News).

Mejbri made one senior appearance for Monaco last season, who will receive half of the transfer fee up front.

The central midfielder’s parents were unhappy with what they claim were “broken promises” from Monaco which led to his exit (The Sun).

Opinion

While it is frustrating to see that Spurs have missed out on a highly-rated youngster, it is refreshing to see the club actively looking to recruit top talent from Europe.
