Report: Spurs miss out on winger after holding talks with his father

Borussia Dortmund have announced the signing of rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Julian Brandt.

The 23-year-old winger had enjoyed a superb season with Bayer Leverkusen having helped his side secure a place in next season’s Champions League on the final day of the campaign with a 5-1 win against Hertha Berlin.

Brandt’s contract with Leverkusen ran until 2021 but was said to have included a transfer release clause of just £21.5million which represents an absolute bargain for a player with his ability and had also attracted interest from Liverpool (The Mirror).

Dortmund have moved quickly to bolster their squad after missing out on the Bundesliga title having also signed Thorgan Hazard from fellow German side Borussia Monchengladbach (BBC).

Spurs officials were said to have held talks with Brand’s father but the player has decided to instead remain in his homeland (SportBild).

Brandt would have given Spurs fans some comfort if Eriksen decides to leave the club this summer.

Opinion

Tottenham certainly need to recruit talent on the wing with Erik Lamela’s injury record continuing to cause frustration. The loss of Brandt at such a good price is a huge loss.
