Report: Spurs offer double the amount of Real Madrid’s offer for transfer target

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly in a battle with Real Madrid to sign Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

Spanish news outlet El Desmarque claim that Spurs are currently ahead of the Spanish giants in the battle to land the 28-year-old.

Since joining from Belgian outfit Genk in 2014, Koulibaly has gone on to establish himself as one of the best central defenders in European football.

Tottenham have had significant defensive issues having only managed to keep two clean sheets since Jose Mourinho arrived at the club towards the end of November.

Koulibaly is not short of admirers with Manchester United, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain all said to be admirers of the Senegalese international (Daily Star).

Mourinho is said to want to bolster his defensive options ahead of the closure of the January transfer window and the North Londoners are reported to have doubled their offer compared to what Madrid have put forward.

Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis has previously admitted that there will come a time when he will have to part company with the defender (Sky Italia).
