Report: Spurs prepared to pay £54m for Ajax star

Tottenham Hotspur could be set to make an approach to Ajax this summer in what has been an almost frequent recurrance in recent years.

Having recruited Christian Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez to the North London ranks, Spurs are now being tipped to rival Everton for winger David Neres according to Italian news outlet Calcio Mercato.

The Brazilian impressed during Ajax’s Dutch title-winning campaign but missed Tottenham’s stunning 3-2 in the Champions League semi final second leg after suffering an injury during the warm-up prior to the match in Amsterdam when he was due to start the clash (Guardian).

The report claims that Spurs are prepared to pay up to €60 million (£54 million) while Everton are only willing to table €50 million (£45 million) for the player who netted 12 goals and provided 15 assists in 50 appearances for Ajax in all competitions last season (transfermarkt).

Opinion

Tottenham are certainly crying out for some natural wide talent, a player with pace yet has an end product to his game.

Erik Lamela has failed season after season to deliver and it’s time for the club to look elsewhere to try and provide some creativity to the likes of Harry Kane from the flanks.
