Report: Spurs set to lose out to Celtic for highly-rated young midfielder

Celtic have made significant progress in proceeding with their interest in Bolton Wanderers midfielder Luca Connell.

The Sun report that the Scottish giants have opened discussions with Bolton’s administrators to discuss a possible deal which would see the 18-year-old move for a training compensation fee payable for the third-year scholar.

Tottenham Hotspur were also linked with a move for the Republic of Ireland Under-18 international last month (The Sun) but it appears that Celtic are now in the box seat.

Connell made a dozen first-team appearances for Bolton last season who were relegated from the Championship and will start next season in League One with a 12-point deduction for going into administration.

Connell has been at Bolton’s academy for 10 years and was regularly watched by scouts after making his debut last season in an FA Cup win against Walsall.

Tottenham have already signed 17-year-old Notts County striker Kion Etete, who is regarded as one for the future (Nottingham Post).
