Report: Spurs set to miss out in midfielder who is set to sign new deal

Tottenham Hotspur could be set to miss out on a potential deal to try and sign West Bromwich Albion midfielder Rekeem Harper.

London Football News had previously reported that Spurs have already held discussions with the 19-year-old with a view to signing him and then loaning him straight back to the Baggies to continue his footballing education.

The England Under-19 international is out of contract with the Championship outfit this summer and has been holding talks with new boss Slaven Bilic with the club optimistic he will commit his future to the club, according to the Birmingham Mail.

Tottenham certainly seem to have a renewed focus on trying to sign young talent playing outside of the Premier League given their interest in Leeds United’s Jack Clarke (Sky Sports) and the fact that Harper has been on their radar.

In previous years, Spurs have certainly had success in recruiting from lower in the English footballing pyramid having brought Michael Dawson, Gareth Bale, Aaron Lennon, Danny Rose and Dele Alli to the club from outside of the Premier League.
