Report: Spurs set to miss out to Man Utd on 28-goal playmaker

Manchester United look set to win the race to sign Portugal midfielder Bruno Fernandes with a deal set to be announced next week (A Bola).

The Sporting Lisbon player was also wanted by Tottenham Hotspur along with Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester City.

United are desperate to push through a deal for player who scored an impressive 28 goals and provided 14 assists in 48 games in all competitions for the Portuguese side last season.

Tottenham are expected to be on the look out for a new creative midfielder following Christian Eriksen’s revelation that he wants to leave the club this summer for a new challenge.

Real Betis’ Giovani Lo Celso (Sky Sports) and Leicester City’s James Maddison (Daily Record) are two players who have been rumoured to be on Mauricio Pochettino’s radar to try and fill the void which the Dane will leave.

Eriksen has been a mainstay in the Spurs side following his transfer from Ajax, but has not delivered when it has mattered this season.

Opinion

Regardless of whoever Mauricio Pochettino wants to sign, it is crucial for once that Daniel Levy conducts his transfer business early rather than waiting for transfer deadline day. We have a track record of late signings, whereas it would be ideal for all the transfer business to be wrapped up before the club jets off to the far east for pre-season.
